Has anyone here played with integrating AU stuff into D&D games? A race here, a class there, that sort of thing? I know Monte has indicated that some AU races appeared in the Ptolus campaign, but I'm not sure to what degree that was thematic as opposed to mechanical.

I've started to do it a bit. Allowed a litorian bard at one point, and it worked fine. Monte has plenty of AU PCs right now in his current Ptolus game. I follow posts on other combo games too. Unless there's a jealousy issue where someone thinks an AU class has cooler abilities than a D&D class, the classes are reasonably balanced next to each other. The races all work fine too.
I'm right now working out how to convert a D&D magic system to the AU system because I like it so much better. ~Council of Magisters ~ Diamond Throne~

I'm running a game using AU classes and rules and standard PHB races. So far it works out well, except that I can't get any PCs to be fully devoted casters... well except for one who can't handle it and hardly ever casts spells.

Currently playing an Unfettered in a primarily D&D campaign. Better than a fighter/rogue but not as good as a single-classed fighter in terms of combat ability. He's got some fun skills to make up for it though and I'm quite happy with it. It's a homegrown game and his race is similar to goblin (but they look catlike).
EDIT: And I played in that game Varianor refers to with the orc fighter... er, human mage, I mean litorian bard, sorry. ;) Inside joke (he was a master of disguise). |

The fighter 2/rogue 2 in my game wanted to try AU so I let him "trade up" to an Unfettered 4. I'm always willing to let anyone try something new or alternate, and he sealed the bargain by taking as his "bonus feat" as an AU character a skill focus in Disable Device.
I was concerned that by leaning a little more towards fighting rather than "rogue-ing", he wouldn't be up to snuff for the Banewarrens. Last session (the first since the swap) there wasn't much combat, but he did find an NPC with a very nice adamantine main-gauche he would consider selling. |

Completely off-topic, but you should get a prize for being the first person to post in this forum in over a year. :)

And interestingly enough, it's a subject I was just contemplating. I'm seriously thinking of using the AU stuff for my "Across the ocean" FR campaign, eventually introducing the various races, etc as part of a new continent.
Has anyone come across any problems? I'm not sure whether I'll introduce the magic system or not - has anyone converted the spellcasting classes to a more traditional D&D magic system? |
